You Make It Happen

February 16, 2010

Good or Bad… you decide what you want in your world.  Afterall, nobody else has the power to determine your destiny UNLESS you give your power away.  Being afraid of what other people think  about decisions you make for your world could lead to a unfulfilling  life for the most important person in your world, YOU!  Do what makes you feel good, and comfortable and positive, UNLESS you prefer to feel bad.  Sometimes feeling good means that others may be disappointed, but you can’t control how other people feel.  You CAN let other people control you into doing things they want you to do even if it makes you miserable.  Me….I want to feel good all the time, every single second I’m blessed to exist and if that hurts anybody’s feeling…what can I say except, ‘YOU ARE NOT THE BOSS OF ME’.   I’m with Jill…Living My Life Like It’s Golden…you aint know?

Baby It’s Cold Outside

February 10, 2010

Remember that line from a song…”Don’t let this cold cold world get you down“.    In life there are many factors that influence how I spend my time.   Sometimes it’s weather, like when it rains, I tend to not go out.  And when my heart is hurting I tend not to go out.  And when I’m not feeling good about my body, I tend not to go out.  And when it’s cold, I’m not thrilled about going out.  I can’t control the weather, but the more I grow, the more I know that I can control how I respond to situations I encounter in life.  I can control how my body looks with food and exercise.   I can choose to embrace beautiful memories and not wallow in heartache.  Its 25 degrees on this chilly February day, but my world is not cold.  I am healthy, intelligent, beautiful, and peaceful.  I  have a great family and friends. I am able to take care of myself .  Baby its cold out outside , but that doesn’t stop the sun from filling my space with beautiful light.  It’s freezing but I still want to feel sun rays on my face.  I will venture out not because I have to, but because I will not let cold air or anything prevent me from getting what I want, and right now I want Sunshine and fresh air.  If you live in a cold, cold world, try opening the curtains…and let some sun in.

A Bed of Roses

February 5, 2010

Life is not a bed of roses everyday.  Sometimes life stinks like when the toilet won’t flush and the plunger is not working and it’s raining outside and you have to go really bad so you hop into your car and need gas and it’s still raining and cold and you get to the gas station and everybody needs gas because it’s Friday and Superbowl weekend and when it’s finally your turn at the pump and the cutest guy ever offers to pumps your gas just because and that really makes your day and life is still not a bed of roses today, but not having to pump gas in the rain when you’ve got to go really bad is all I needed to make me smile today.    Hoping you have a wonderful day!

Getting To My Roots

December 13, 2009

I’ve been relaxer free since October 10, 2009.  I ’m going natural, but the texture of my virgin hair feels foreign.  That thought gave me pause.   The unnatural straightening of my hair feels more normal than the coiled hair I was born with.   My hair has been ‘straightened’ as far back as I can remember, first by hot comb, then chemically straightened by relaxers.  I was unnatural for so long, it felt natural.   Nappy hair wasn’t popular when I was young, then James Brown said it loud, “I’m black and I’m Proud”, and lots of folk stopped straightening their hair and went natural.  My afro was so tall it split in the middle.  But it wasn’t the spirit of the political and cultural movement during the 60’s and 70’s that made me and my friends want afro’s.   We wanted natural’s because it was the style.    I’m going natural now because I don’t want to put chemicals on my head anymore.  I’m getting acquainted with the natural texture of my hair, it keeps my fingers fascinated.   This is the second time I’ve gone natural since relaxers, but the first time I’m enjoying it.  New growth is my new style.  My tiny weenie afro  doesn’t feel natural yet, but my roots are free to grow naturally.

Free Christmas Gift

December 11, 2009

The 40 day plan is my gift to you. It’s simple but if you use it, it could change your life. I started using the 40 Day Plan two years ago after hearing a sermon staring WD-40, Dec 16, 2007.  Forty is the number of times it took to get the formula right.  Just image trying 39 times and failing, then one more time and jackpot!  WD-40 is still that companies best-selling product. From that day I’ve used 40 days to focus on a goal.  Forty days, in the bible, represents a time of trial, probation, chastisement, and ends with renewal, restoration, and revival. Today is day 40 for my most recent plan. I made a commitment to blog everyday for 40 days in support of my goal of being the best author is my world. I made it happen. I’m on day 40. I’ve completed 40 days of sharing, and growing as a person and a writer. That’s how I know that we can have whatever we are willing to work for.  When I started, I didn’t know if I could think of forty topics to blog about, but I did, and I’m proud.  I feel great.  I know I can do more.  I’m willing to work hard at everything I do because I know you reap what you sow.  Give yourself forty days, that’s only five weeks, five days of focus on what you want in your life.  What better time than now to start? Experience the significant of 40.  Enjoy the free gift, and share it with those you’d like to help grow. Happy holidays ..ps: I’d love to hear your 40 day success stories…

Starting From Scratch

December 10, 2009

I love pound cake made from scratch.  I think they taste better than pound cake purchased from a bakery.   When you make a cake from scratch, you get to decide how much butter, sugar, flavoring, love and other ingredients goes into your mix.  It takes more effort to bake a cake from scratch, but I believe they taste better than cakes from the bakery or a box.  When I think about life and cake, I’d like to think that most people want a life made from scratch, where we determine what we mix in our lives.  Box cake and bakery cake tastes good, and it’s easier, but you don’t get to decide what goes into it.  I’m just saying…if life can taste sweeter with a little more effort, aren’t you worth it?

Determine Your Destiny

December 9, 2009

You can determine your destiny, you know.   You can decide to do a thing, and follow through with it.  Every day you can do the tiniest thing or the biggest thing to determine your destiny.  Know what you want.  If you find that hard, think about the things that make you smile.  If you can’t think of anything that makes you smile, explore new things.  Start one day and do it the next day, then the next day and don’t stop.   You don’t have to believe, just be willing and don’t stop.  Determine your destiny.  Start today, something amazing is waiting.

Feel Great

December 8, 2009

Do you think it’s possible to feel great every day?  I do.  Today I feel great about the progress we’ve made on the do it our self portion of our home renovation.   I feel great about finding something that was lost.  I feel great that I have a friend who has my back, and a paintbrush and is helping tremendously on our project.   I feel great about being on day 37 of my 40 day plan to become a better writer.  I feel great about the way I am growing.  Wouldn’t it be nice if we all felt great about at least one thing every day?  Yes, that would be nice.

What, Do the Lonely Do, At Christmas?

December 7, 2009

I love the spirit of Christmas.  The decorations, music, and good will toward people, all create a special atmosphere once a year.  One song that always makes me laugh when I hear it during the holiday’s is , “What do the lonely do at Christmas?” It’s my friend Cheryl’s favorite holiday song.   I believe lonely people do the same thing they do the rest of the year, which may be the reason they’re lonely.  But you don’t have to feel that way, and I don’t believe that you have to be in a relationship to not feel lonely but you do have to do something different.   The song never tells you what the lonely do at Christmas but I have a few suggestions.

Get out of the house and get some fresh air.
Drive around and enjoy Christmas lights.
Take your laptop on a date to a coffee shop.
Learn something new
Don’t let price be a factor.
There are free classes available if you do some research, you will find them.  I know in Atlanta, Salsa dancing lessons are free some nights.
Visit your local library.
They have lists of free events and also DVD’s, books, magazines…all kinds of stuff to feed your mind.

If you hear ‘What Do The Lonely Do At Christmas?’, and it makes you feel sad and lonely, understand that self love is in need.  Make a plan to get busy loving yourself, because when you love yourself it shows, and like attracts like.  I enjoy Christmas like I enjoy every other day.  I want as much happy, peace, excitement, joy, amazement, wonder, love, love, love, pleasure, and all the good available.  I’m singing “I’m growing better everyday”.
